Bouclé Blonde 🤍 (boo-clay)

Inspired by that soft, ivory cream bouclé fabric.

It’s that perfect in between blonde. Not too warm, not too cool, just creamy, bright, and full of soft dimension.

Almost like that naturally light blonde you had as a kid, but a little more refined.

I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot more of this blonde.

I intentionally made this video three minutes long because Instagram doesn’t typically push longer videos to non-followers. And for once, that’s exactly what I wanted. 🤍

I didn’t want to share this part of my life with strangers. I wanted to share it with you.

The people who’ve been here, who’ve supported me, and who’ve made this little corner of the internet feel safe enough to be vulnerable in.

You know me as the girl who does hair, but there’s so much more to my story. And some parts of it are still really hard to talk about.

So this is me trusting you with a little piece of my heart. 🤍

The REAL pros and cons of balayage’ing with permanent colour:

PROS:
- much more gentle on the hair
- lifts and deposits simultaneously, so no toner needed
- lift is controlled and predictable
- gives a much more natural appearance
- less fade compared to a bleach and tone
- excellent for grey blending
- feels softer and shinier

CONS:
- it only works on virgin or minimally highlighted hair
- 3-4 levels of lift MAX . Not meant for bright blonding.
- if you are a part of the “I still see yellow” club, this isn’t the technique for you.
- less room for correction if hair doesn’t lift enough

Flew out to Edmonton to spend the day with the team at Fresh & Co Salon for a grey blending class… and this one definitely kept me on my toes 💀

We ended up with more stylists, more models, and a whole lot more hair happening than I originally expected. And when you’re working entirely on live models, especially with grey blending, you really have no idea what’s going to sit down in your chair because let’s be real… grey blending is VERY often colour correction disguised as grey blending.

So the day became less about “here’s a placement, now copy it” and way more about learning how to look at what’s actually in front of you, make a plan, and then adapt that plan when the hair inevitably decides it has other ideas. And honestly I think that made the education even better.

Learning a placement is one thing. Learning how to problem solve in real time and understand WHY you’re making each decision is where things really start to click behind the chair.

It was busy, slightly chaotic, SO much fun, and there was a ton of learning happening all at once. Exactly the kind of education day I love.

And somewhere in between all of that, I decided it was also necessary to walk around asking everyone completely random questions that had absolutely nothing to do with what we were learning 🤷‍♀️

You know when your blonde isn’t necessarily bad but something about it just isn’t hitting anymore?

That was basically where we were at.

She felt super dark on top, really solid blonde through the ends, and the blonde itself was feeling a little too warm. She wanted everything to blend together more, still have dimension, grow out really softly, but obviouslyyy we were not giving up a good money piece.

So through the back I mixed teased weaves to keep some of her depth, then moved into teased slices around her hairline + through the mohawk because that’s where I wanted the blonde to really show up.

And then honestly the lowlight did a LOT of the work here. Everything I left out of my foils got lowlighted to break up those blonde ends and bring the dimension back.

Also the full formula is in the reel because I know that’s what you’re actually here for 😎
